Aguado’s Sheet Music

Lessons, exercises and studies from Dionisio Aguado’s (1784–1849) Nuevo método para guitarra (1843), with sheet music and tab to download.

They are the lessons with a musical example, the right-hand exercises and the studies of the third section (Madrid, 1843). Each piece keeps the number and the name it has in the book, and not all of them are here: only those that could be checked against the original are published.

The printed source is the 1843 facsimile distributed by IMSLP. The notes start from the MuseScore transcriptions that TabGuitar publishes for free download; each one is checked against the book before it appears here, and the PDF is generated again, with the tablature computed by the engine of the site’s “Sheet Music with Tablature” tool: they are not TabGuitar’s PDFs.

Lessons 7, 8 and 10 to 13 are not on TabGuitar: they were transcribed by hand from the 1843 facsimile and carry the pending-review mark.

The tablature was made by algorithms. Although we review it manually, you may find some errors. The fingers of both hands (numbers for the left, p i m a for the right) are those of the source transcription and the tablature respects the left-hand ones; position marks are not included. Barre marks are kept (“C 7”: barre at the 7th fret) and the tablature keeps its strings fretted at or above the barre; when the transcription only says “Barré” or “Ceja”, the fret comes from its own tablature. Bars the book abbreviates with the bar-repeat sign are written out in full. Each PDF carries a credit to the source transcription in its footer.
