Sagreras’ First Lessons

The lessons from the first book of Julio Salvador Sagreras’ method, from open strings to the first studies, with sheet music and tab to download.

Las lecciones de guitarra is the six-book method that the Argentine guitarist Julio Salvador Sagreras (1879–1942) began publishing in 1922. The first book, Las primeras lecciones de guitarra (First Lessons for Guitar), collects 86 short lessons that take the student from open strings to the notes of the first staff, chords, arpeggios, scales and the first studies in keys other than C major. Each lesson keeps the number it has in the book.

The notes and rhythms come from the transcription by Marieh (2020), published on IMSLP under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 license.

The tablature was made by algorithms. Although we review it manually, you may find some errors. It may differ from Marieh’s fingering. The fingerings for both hands (numbers for the left, p i m a for the right) are those of her edition and the tablature follows the left-hand ones and her barre marks (“C 2”: barre at the 2nd fret, for as long as the dashed line lasts); the book’s other texts are not included.
