Barrios’ Sheet Music

Studies, minuets and preludes to build technique by Agustín Barrios Mangoré (1885–1944), with sheet music and tab to download.

Besides his large concert works, the Paraguayan guitarist and composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré (1885–1944) wrote a series of short studies, minuets and preludes to build technique: slurs, both hands, arpeggios, voice leading and expression. This page collects the most instructive of them, starting with the studies.

The notes and rhythms come from the editions by Stefan Apke (2017–2019), published on IMSLP under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license. This adaptation, with its tablature, is shared under the same license.

The tablature was generated by algorithms. Although we review it by hand, you may find a mistake. It can differ from Apke’s fingering: it keeps the edition’s left-hand fingers, but not its slurs, string numbers or position marks. The Estudio del Ligado in D minor, Estudio No. 4 (Arabescos) and the Estudio in G minor have the sixth string tuned down to D. The Estudio in B minor (Homage to Bach) is written for one or two guitars: each guitar is given separately here.
